VMware Is Now A Platinum Sponsor Of The Apache Software Foundation

The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) has welcomed its new sponsor VMware at the Platinum level. The ASF is a US 501(c) (3) non-profit charitable organization that aims at open-source software development. Some hosting and cloud leading companies like pheonixNAP, Leaseweb, Alibaba Cloud, and AWS support ASF.

The Apache Software Foundation was founded in the year 1999 and is now the world’s biggest open-source foundation, stewarding 227 million lines of code and offering more than $22 billion in free software to the public. The ASF has volunteer software engineers and specialists from all across the world, that have valuable contributions to the development of hundreds of software applications including Apache CloudStack, Hadoop, Cassandra, and the Apache HTTP Web Server.

Down Foster, the Director of Open Source Community Strategy at VMware said, “ASF has some of the most important open-source projects under its name. VMware customers can easily build and deploy a wide range of products using Apache HTTP, Tomcat, and Geode”. He further added, “the company is very delighted to support ASF with their sponsorship, and in addition, their team members are now making to projects like Apache Geode”.
